About Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s Economy

The economy of Kazakhstan is one of the largest in Central Asia, with a consistently growing GDP. The backbone of this expansion is largely due to its robust mining industry, encompassing the oil and gas sector as well as the mining and metallurgical complex.

Meanwhile, the country is pursuing a long-term diversification strategy, actively promoting the development of manufacturing, the agro-industrial complex, transportation, and logistics. To attract capital, the Kazakhstan government has established special economic zones, which support the launch of dozens of new investment projects each year with foreign capital involvement.

Kazakhstan’s Oil Sector

The oil sector in Kazakhstan is undergoing a period of transformation, adapting to new global dynamics while maintaining its position as a pivotal economic driver. In 2025, annual oil exports rose to 39.6 million tons, up from 35.4 million tons in the same period in 2024.

The oil industry is seeing the emergence of multiple small and medium-sized oil producers. As larger fields mature, the importance of agile and efficient operators capable of tapping smaller, more complex, or depleted reserves grows. The government is working with producers such as Jupiter Energy by refining fiscal policies and streamlining access to resources. This creates substantial opportunities for us to adopt innovative approaches and technologies to enhance oil recovery rates.

Responding to the global push for decarbonisation, the sector has also focused on sustainable development. Leading operators are actively deploying technologies to cut emissions and boost energy efficiency, adhering to environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) principles. Simultaneously, Kazakhstan is strategically diversifying its export routes, increasing shipments via the Trans-Caspian corridor alongside traditional channels.

The oil and gas sector's future plans are the establishment of petrochemical facilities, facilitating a shift from raw material exports to the production of high-value products.
